We can agree in principle that a woman who is financially independent is able to raise educated and responsible citizens. This is what is happening to 60 women from Mitundu in Lilongwe – Malawi who are benefiting from a project called Rural Women Empowerment on Agri-business and Financial Management that was launched early this year. The women have been going through a series of training on value addition, food processing, packaging, and financial management. Today these women underwent training on peanut making training and they are so excited to go through such training. As a cooperative called Tiyanjane, they are able to sell more products like tomato, onion, groundnuts, and peanut.
Women like Mercy Katsabola who is also the chairperson for the cooperative has benefited a lot from the project and she is grateful to World Connect through USAID for the wonderful gesture. Projects like these are vital for the education and empowerment of girl child education as well as her well being. A mother who has the financial muscle easily supports her girl child on her education which helps prevent early marriages. We urge you all to purchase Tiyanjane products, a proudly Malawian product, for the betterment of our country.
